Darmstadt Music Prize Scholarship for Academy Alumna Jadwiga Frej

We warmly congratulate our alumna Jadwiga Frej on being awarded the Darmstadt Music Prize 2023 scholarship of the Förderkreis' Kultur e.V. at the suggestion of the International Music Institute Darmstadt. The main prize goes to the renowned jazz bassist Norbert Dömmlingwhom we warmly congratulate. The award ceremony will take place on 24 April 2023 at 7 pm in the Centralstation.

Jadwiga Frej's music exists at the interface between theatrical and musical action. She composes not only tones, rhythms and forms, but also overall situations: Sound, space, light, audio documents, electronic sounds and the performers' bodies. The result is captivatingly clear, humorous and subtle music-theatrical forms. The young artist is already well known to Darmstadt residents: As a former member of the composition class for children and young people at the Akademie für Tonkunst, she worked as a composer on the music theatre project "The Prince of Yemen" for the Staatstheater Darmstadt. Since then, the national and international music world has rightly become aware of her: Renowned ensembles such as the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, the Sinfonietta Dresden and the El Perro Andaluz Ensemble perform her works. Her percussion piece "rein.l.ich" was premiered at the Zeitströme Festival 2020 at the Akademie für Tonkunst on the occasion of the anniversary of the composition class. She was a scholarship holder of the Academy "Musiktheater heute". In this context, her new music theatre was premiered in December 2022 at the Frankfurt LAB with the Ensemble Modern and singers from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.
