About the Akademie für Tonkunst
The Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt is one of the most traditional music training institutions in Germany with a university vocational academy and the municipal music school. After its foundation in 1851 as Schmitt'sche Akademie für Tonkunst and its takeover as a municipal institution, it was recognised by the state in 1922. Today, the academy has a modern campus and offers a musical home to more than 1700 pupils and students.
