New developments at the music school

Following extensive restructuring in the area of our vocational academy, the music school is now also in the process of reorganising itself. In combination with the well-established teaching formats, we are developing a modern structure for the comprehensive musical development of our students.
In our BASIC PROGRAMME, we want to address all citizens who are interested in a musical exchange. We are particularly keen to include new target groups that we have not yet been able to reach. In addition to the elementary early education programmes, we will be offering a holistic programme for different age groups with practical basic music courses - supervised by four teachers in the team. We also offer workshops for children, young people and adults on a wide range of topics (e.g. body percussion, Djerimba, music and movement, various choirs). No prior knowledge is required.

In our STANDARD PROGRAMME, music students of all ages can enjoy the full range of programmes offered by the municipal music school. In addition to vocal or instrumental lessons with outstanding teachers, this includes the opportunity to actively participate in ensembles and performance groups.

In our ADVANCED PRGORAMME I (Talent Factory), particularly ambitious students receive extra offers in the area of supplementary subjects (e.g. music theory, ear training and sight-singing) as well as more teaching time in the main subject in order to further develop and deepen their skills and interests.

In the ADVANCED PROGRAMME II (PreCollege), particularly talented students who are aiming to study music at our vocational academy or at another university have the opportunity to prepare for the requirements of an entrance examination over a period of two years. Here they are fully supported and encouraged by the academy team.

In all of our activities, the exchange between the different age and ability levels through artistic project work is important to us. We also want to facilitate constructive dialogue and teaching to the highest current standards between lecturers within the framework of co-teaching and team-teaching models. This includes ongoing investment in the building's technical infrastructure. We are very pleased that the ongoing funding from the City of Darmstadt has made it possible to modernise our lighting system in the Wilhelm Petersen Hall. The establishment of a music production suite for students is imminent.
