Discovery Weekend | 14-16 July 2023

Under the motto "Listen, See, Try", the Akademie für Tonkunst opens its doors to all music lovers from 14 to 16 July. The pupils and students will kick things off on Friday, 14 July, 6 pm, in the Wilhelm-Petersen-Saal with an entrancing production of Hans Krása's "Brundibar" and Kurt Weill's "Mahagonny Songspiel" (Georg Blüml, director & Elena Postumi, musical director). Further performances of the short operas will take place on 15 July (6pm) and 16 July (4pm). After the music theatre events, everyone is invited to a musical chill-out with the young artists.

On Sunday, 16 July, the Academy will be a hotspot for everyone when the house becomes a temple of sound with countless micro-concerts on four stages and instrumental labs from 11 am to 3:30 pm. Everyone is invited to get to know the various instruments and ensembles of the house, to try out instruments under the guidance of the teachers or simply to talk to the musicians of the house over coffee, cake, chips and homemade burgers. In addition, there will be the opportunity to test your luck with attractive prizes at a raffle organised by the Friends of the House. Fun, games and entertainment for ages 3 to 99 are guaranteed. At 4 p.m. the Discovery Weekend will close with the last performance of the musical theatre spectacle "Brundibar" / "Mahagonny-Songspiel".
