First prizes in the Karel Kunc competition for academy students

Great success for our young Drummer Jonathan Wagner and Samuel Mikowski-BosworthAt the 41st Karel Kunc Music Competition at the Bad Dürkheim Music School, they won first prize in age group II and also received the music prize for young talents from the Rotary Clubs of Deidesheim-Mittelhaardt & Bad Dürkheim. Their teachers Thomas Weiler and Matthias Lang together with the Academy, are delighted with this outstanding result.

In contrast to Jugend musiziert, the competition required several rounds with a changing programme. The jury decided spontaneously which pieces to play - an exciting challenge that demanded a high degree of flexibility and organisational talent. The rapid changes and build-up of the various instruments in particular made the competition a real experience.

Jonathan and Samuel presented the full diversity of percussion: from virtuoso duos on two snare drums to groovy set-ups with numerous drums and cymbals to finely tuned marimba pieces and body percussion. Their joint playing impressed with its precision, energy and joy of playing - and impressively demonstrated what is possible when two young musicians work together as a team.

Dana and Milana Gabler from Carina Stangorra's piano class were equally successful:
The brother and sister from Darmstadt also won 1st prize in the piano duo category (age group I) as well as the Sparkasse sponsorship prize. As with the percussionists, the decision was made in three rounds, each with a different programme. The two demonstrated their high musical level and tireless diligence.

We would like to congratulate the students and teachers and thank them for their commitment!

A big thank you also goes to the parents, who support the young musicians with a great deal of commitment - be it with regular practice, transporting the instruments or through their constant enthusiasm.
