At the beginning of December, neue.tonkunst.darmstadt set another example of openness and musical curiosity. Two workshops and a concert brought the AsianArt Ensemble and new sound perspectives to Akademie für Tonkunst and the Kunsthalle Darmstadt.
On 4 December, Wolfgang Bender gave a compact insight into new violin playing techniques before Prof. Il-Ryun Chung (professor of composition at the academy and director of the AsianArt Ensemble) led us into the world of Korean rhythms (Jangdan).
The crowning finale followed on 5 December: First Friday at the Kunsthalle Darmstadt - an atmospheric concert that impressively demonstrated how lively the exchange between musical traditions can sound, framed by the open spaces of the Kunsthalle and the works of the exhibition "No Place Like Home".
