Stefan Kammer was born in Ortenberg.
Studied at the Musikhochschule Köln and the Fine Art Centre Banff/Canada with Prof. Wolfgang Güttler.
1988-1989 he was a member of the European Youth Orchestra ECYO.
Further orchestra stations were the Gewandhausorchester zu Leipzig,the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra and the Bremen Philharmonic State Orchestra.
Since 2000 Stefan Kammer has been principal double bass in the Darmstadt State Orchestra.
