Music ranging from Adele to *The Magic Flute*: That was Academy Day 2026

Amidst glorious weather and a great atmosphere, the Academy Open Day 2026 took place at Akademie für Tonkunst on 13 June. Under the motto „There’s music in it!“, a wide variety of ensembles showcased an enormous range of musical styles. This was evident right from the festive opening of the Academy Open Day: the Junior Choir, Adult Choir, International Choir, Academy Junior Orchestra and a quintet comprising students and teachers from Akademie für Tonkunst all performed. Alongside Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria in D major, the programme also featured „Kann mich irgendjemand hören“ from the film „Die Schule der magischen Tiere“ and „Circle of Life“ from „The Lion King“. As part of this opening ceremony, Matthias Daum, Head of Bank Management and Deputy Board Member at Sparkasse Darmstadt and Dieburg, presented Academy Director Cord Meijering with a cheque for €4,800 to support the promotion of talented students at Akademie für Tonkunst.

This was followed by a varied programme of Programme featuring short concerts on three stages. In addition to the large Wilhelm-Petersen Hall and the small hall, there was also an outdoor stage for the 2026 Academy Day. Piano solo programmes, guitar classes, a recorder workshop, the Teens & Twens Chamber Orchestra, a wide variety of chamber music ensembles, vocal performances and various bands all delighted the audience with musical performances ranging from Baroque and Classical to jazz and rock classics, as well as pop songs by Adele and Billie Eilish.

As well as the varied programme of stage performances, there was also the chance to try out a few instruments or take part in small craft workshops. What’s more, another highlight awaited in the foyer: the ‘Wunderbare Wunderbühne’. There, visitors first spun a wheel of fortune and then took a seat in a stylish armchair. The red curtain of the small stage then opened, and a short, surprise musical performance was presented. Music pupils of all ages performed songs and pieces from various musical genres, sometimes as soloists and sometimes in small ensembles, providing great entertainment.

The „” took care of the catering for visitors to the Academy Day 2026.„Pizzaman in a Pizzavan“ and „Miss Zuckertopf“ as well as the Akademie für Tonkunst Friends’ Association, who provided cold drinks.
