Music with 4 Blatt Quartett: A wonderful evening at the Ricarda Huch Prize

The quartet "4 sheets" designed together with Sabine Hoppe the musical accompaniment to the presentation of the Ricarda Huch Prize 2024 and lent the event a particularly festive atmosphere.

The award ceremony took place on 24 September 2024 in the Centralstation Darmstadt instead. Lord Mayor Hanno Benz presented the award to the author and journalist Philipp Peyman Engelaccompanied by a moving laudatory speech by Jürgen Kaube, co-editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

The 4-sheet quartet, consisting of Nikolai Shauchenka (soprano saxophone), Sabine Hoppe (alto saxophone), Szymon Kowina (tenor saxophone) and Jonas Fischer (baritone saxophone), performed in two blocks and played the following pieces:

  • Englishman in New York - Sting
  • Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush (at the request of the award winner Philipp Peyman Engel)
  • Moon River - H. Mancini (at the request of the prizewinner)
  • Libertango - A. Piazzolla

It is particularly worth emphasising that Nikolai Shauchenka stepped in at short notice for an SVA student who was ill and thus made a valuable contribution to the musical programme. After the award ceremony, the quartet was invited to dinner together at the "Obendrüber" restaurant.

Many thanks to everyone involved for making this wonderful evening possible and to the guests who made the event so special.
